This job: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zosrothko/poco/build/build%20develo... has been cancelled by timeout while usually, it terminates in a timed manned. What has been added is a Cygwin command that launches the /usr/sbin/cygserver as a backgroud process because it is needed for the testsuites. How can be avoided the timeout?

I'm not sure how it relates to timeout but just looking at the error from running the shell script, it may be having a problem with backquotes.
    Maybe try changing

    export POCO_BASE=`pwd`

    export POCO_BASE=$(pwd)

Yes, it is sure that the timeout is due to the cygserver & command, because I had other build jobs without this command and they finished without timingout.

I rerun the build without the cygserver: https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zosrothko/poco/build/build%20develo...

So i guess the issue i pointed to is not significant. However, you are still getting a shell error for the same command. You changed to $pwd instead of wrapping in parentheses $(pwd).

Even with $(pwd), the script seems in error. See https://ci.appveyor.com/project/zosrothko/poco/build/build develop-296/job/u3koto5xo3g4y790?fullLog=true

    bash.exe -c "appveyor/Cygwin/runtests.sh"
    bash.exe : export POCO_BASE=$(pwd)
    At line:1 char:1
    + & bash.exe -c "appveyor/Cygwin/runtests.sh" + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (export POCO_BASE=$(pwd):String) [], RemoteException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandError
