I have a .NET project with one git submodule. I setup an "install" script to execute 'git submodule update --init' and I get an error that I don't quite understand. Here's the log from the last build:

Build started
git clone -q git:// C:\projects\gettyimages-api-dotnet
git fetch -q origin +refs/pull/10/merge:
git checkout -qf FETCH_HEAD
Running Install scripts
git submodule update --init
Submodule 'GettyImages.Api.OnlineTests/Scenarios' ( registered for path 'GettyImages.Api.OnlineTests/Scenarios'
git : Cloning into 'GettyImages.Api.OnlineTests/Scenarios'...
At line:1 char:1
+ git submodule update --init
+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    + CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (Cloning into 'G...s/Scenarios'...:String) [], RemoteException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandError

Submodule path 'GettyImages.Api.OnlineTests/Scenarios': checked out '8dbb9ee320ded5637c932586835b624601bb8850'
Command executed with exception: Cloning into 'GettyImages.Api.OnlineTests/Scenarios'...

Build is here

use git submodule -q update --init or switch command mode from PS to CMD.

    Switching to cmd worked. Thanks!

Mark, I'm running into a similar issue. I have a submodule that is trying to clone down but the install hangs and the build timer runs out. It works great on my machine so I'm not sure what is going on.

    Build started
    $fileContent = "-----BEGIN RSA PRIVATE KEY-----`n"
    $fileContent += $env:priv_key.Replace(' ', "`n")
    $fileContent += "`n-----END RSA PRIVATE KEY-----`n"
    Set-Content c:\users\appveyor\.ssh\id_rsa $fileContent
    git clone -q --depth=1 --branch=feature-auto-deploys C:\projects\rock
    git checkout -qf 11817e66a21cebecd583a2f4678e16a0186c7346
    Running Install scripts
    git submodule update --init --recursive
    Submodule '.remote/bookshelf' ( registered for path '.remote/bookshelf'
    Cloning into '.remote/bookshelf'...

Try output the contents of id_rsa file right after Set-Content to see what you got there.
