Only allow certain types of builds to be deployed to specific environments

We have AppVeyor projects that are websites and they are built for production and for development. We want to be able to deploy a production build and only have one option of where it can deploy. Currently, there is a possibility for accidently deploying the wrong build for production at the wrong time. Could there be a feature that restricts an environment to only certain builds?

What if builds could be tagged and then environments filtered by compatible tags?
I realize we could create a seperate project for dev and production, but that would add a lot of clutter and complexity.

Tagging builds (and other entities) with custom metadata is a great idea. We are definitely going to implement that! Other than that right now probably the best option is having two projects.
