Error when using Java

When attempting to execute java, I get:

Error: Registry key 'Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'\CurrentVersion'?
has value '1.8', but '1.7' is required.?
Error: could not find java.dll?
Error: Could not find Java SE Runtime Environment.?

Usually this is due to Java being installed incorrectly, maybe because 1.8 was installed first, then 1.7? Notice the registry says 1.8 is current, but 1.7 is the one in PATH, this is inconsistent.

1.8 was installed after. Tried updating PATH to point to 1.8?

I think you should update Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment'\CurrentVersion to 1.7 to be consistent with the default in PATH.
