Visual Studio Test Runner Crashing

I made a commit today and the build failed, with Visual Studio Test Runner crashing.

I re-ran the build several times, and also rebuilt an earlier commit which worked previously, and that also causes Visual Studio Test Runner to crash.

Here are the build logs: 1, 2.

Presumably this is an issue in Visual Studio 2015 Update 1.

Is there a way to roll back to using Visual Studio 2015 until the issue can be fixed?

You can use previous stable image by adding this to appveyor.yml:
    os: Previous Visual Studio 2015

...but what is that error about? How do you execute test runner? Is it a
    known
issue and who needs to fix it?

I don't know what the error is about - it looks like Visual Studio Test Runner is just crashing before it runs a single test. It runs fine locally, and was running in AppVeyor fine until after Update 1 is installed.

I don't know if it's a known issue yet, and I would assume it's an issue that Microsoft need to fix.

I just run Visual Studio Test Runner from the command line in an MSBuild script.

Do you have Update 1 installed locally?

Have you tried running it on Previous Visual Studio 2015 image?

Yes I have Update 1 installed locally, it doesn't crash.

I've just committed a change to revert the OS to see if that fixes the build.

It's running tests again now. Looks like an issue with Update 1 or something else in the OS image refresh.

Have you tried isolating the issue to something really simple, like a single test + a single command executing test runner with it?

Never mind, I've been able to run tests on Update 1 after installing Test
    Agents
    Update 1:
    https://ci.appveyor.com/project/FeodorFitsner/sqllocaldb/build/1.15.6.0
Stay on Previous now, but don't forget to get back when image update is out
    later this week.

    Thanks Feodor!

Maybe it's something do with the code coverage adapters being missing or something? I recall a few weeks ago a similar issue with tests failing because Test Agents were missing on the OS image.

It's been fixed. You can switch back to the latest (default) image.
