chocolatey timeout when installing openssh
I have had an appveyor config working for about a year now.
In the past 24 hours, I suddenly started seeing random timeout errors when installing chocolatey:
https://ci.appveyor.com/project/adiroiban/twisted/build/trunk-3718/...
choco install openssh -confirm
Chocolatey v0.10.7
Installing the following packages:
openssh
By installing you accept licenses for the packages.
Progress: Downloading openssh 0.0.18.0... 71%openssh not installed. An error occurred during installation:
The operation has timed out.
openssh package files install completed. Performing other installation steps.
The install of openssh was NOT successful.
openssh not installed. An error occurred during installation:
The operation has timed out.
Chocolatey installed 0/1 packages. 1 packages failed.
See the log for details (C:\ProgramData\chocolatey\logs\chocolatey.log).
Failures
- openssh (exited 1) - openssh not installed. An error occurred during installation:
The operation has timed out.
Any ideas what the problem might be?
The timeout errors seem to be random and intermittent, but their frequency is growing.
This is blocking my commits, because in our workflow, we need to have appveyor passing
before a commit is allowed.

Hi Graig, it was temporary network issue connected to our expansion to the new datacenter. Should be OK now. Sorry for the trouble.
But to be on the safe side, consider adding retry to this command, for example
appveyor-retry choco install openssh -confirm2 Posted by Ralf on 19 Aug, 2017 10:22 AM
The issue seems to be far from solved: Currently, every single Rust PR is failing to get merged because the AppVeyor CI fails to download things via chocolatey. See for example https://ci.appveyor.com/project/rust-lang/rust/build/1.0.4327 and https://ci.appveyor.com/project/rust-lang/rust/build/1.0.4331.

This seemed to be fixed for a few hours, but same as Ralf,
I am again seeing timeout errors with chocolatey:

Howdy, I'm from Chocolatey - it is very strange to see Chocolatey start downloading a package and stop midstream with an operation timeout. We'd love to investigate what is causing this issue but we may need some more information - if you could provide the chocolatey.log file from where this occurred, that would be extremely beneficial. You can go a couple of routes here - easiest is to just add it to the appveyor artifacts -
c:\programdata\chocolatey\logs\chocolatey.logis the default location). Otherwise you could set up RDP and get it from the machine.5 Posted by ferventcoder on 22 Aug, 2017 06:30 PM
It's definitely not normal and not something we are seeing anywhere else that a download would be cut off right in the middle. Has anything changed with AppVeyor infra lately that may have caused this?

Yes, we expanded into another datacenter (Liquid Web). This issue happens only with VMs in that location, and even there it happens intermittently. We are working with Liquid Web networking people too.

Just a note, with 0.10.7, you can add
--traceand the output from Chocolatey will have quite a bit more. I would suggest another way to see more verbose output, call the installs/upgrades with the following:choco install <id> -y -dv --trace. Note that this will fill up a log extremely fast. If you install the 0.10.8 prerelease, there is even more output that trace outputs. You may also want to turn off download progress
--no-progress(available in 0.10.4+).8 Posted by Ilya Finkelshte... on 22 Aug, 2017 09:54 PM
We are working closely with Liquid Web support now, I will do more choco traces if they convince me that this is on your side.
