guaranteed build time

I just started using Appveyor for my opensource project. My project is a plugin for a larger program. For ABI compatibility the plugin has to be compiled using the same compiler and Qt lib as the larger program, so my repository contains the source of both, and the CI builds both the large project and then my plugin.

Now, the large project never changes, but it can take a while to compile. Some days Appveyor will compile it in 26 mins, and some other days it will fail to compile it under the allowed 40 minutes.

I plan to use the build cache functionality in the near future, so that only the plugin needs to be recompiled once the large project is already in the cache. My question is: is there a way for me to know beforehand that my "big build" won't timeout? Or is there a way to be allowed to be granted a longer build once in a while, in order to populate the cache?

We've added more hardware to OSS environment. Performance should be better now.
