Hey guys,
Maybe I'm just too new-age, but I've always thought that tests that don't run automatically are silly, and in my new role I need to pay more attention to QA than I did as a dev. One of the tools that my head QA likes is ranorex, a UI automation framework, and I'd like to have a subset of ranorex tests run on every push similar to smoke/unit tests for devs.
We're writing a java desktop app and we currently have our unit/smoke/performance tests running on circleCI (java on ubuntu), but ranorex itself is a big tightly-windows-coupled .net project, and, like most UI automation framework needs windows and it needs the system to think it has a screen to run. So, if appveyor can do this for me, I'd love to see ranorex running on every commit or on every push.
I'm guessing the big argument against such a system is that if the UI automation tests take too long than builds will stack up in the queue, but I'm guessing that if we keep these tests down to happy-path-sanity-checks, we can easily get them running and completing in under 20 minutes. With 2 or 3 machines worth of parallelism, even on a really commit-heavy day I don't think any dev would be waiting for more than an hour to find out if his tests failed ui automation --never needing to get our QA involved, which would be a huge win.
Any chance I can get the ranporex ui automation framework written in .net to run on appveyor in a continuous way?

Hi Geoff,
Thanks for trying out AppVeyor!
Looks like ranorex requires a license to work. AppVeyor build worker VMs are stateless which means their state are not preserved between the builds.
If ranorex can be installed in unattended mode and its license deployed during the build then you are good to go.
