conda env create failing on build, but working locally

Hi there

I recently made a minor change to this (private) build and introduced new version of python and a new python dependency.

I can create this environment locally without problems, even after deleting all existing environments, packages and suchlike.

The versions of conda used are the same in both cases, and the version of python (which I don't think is relevant), is a single patch version different.

Any advice about how I can fix / debug this would be appreciated.

    Hi Cedd,

Are you getting that error on conda update -q conda command, right? Are you getting this error on all AppVeyor images? Quick googling shows others have similar problems with either updating conda or installing certain packages:

    Hi Feodor

I am getting it on `conda env create -f environment.yml` actually, and I have changed environment.yml, so in that sense it does make sense.

However it works perfectly locally, so I don't know how to debug it.

The `conda update -q conda` bit is just something I found from some googling, and makes sure that the conda version is the same on the build as I have locally.

I was using the default build image, but have moved to the Visual Studio 2019 one, which hasn't helped.

Can you share that environment.yml please? I'm going to do a repro and try locally as well.

The problem seems to be with python 3.7, downgrading to 3.6 works ok

Thanks for the update! Is it something we should fix on our side or it's Conda's issue?

Well, it didn't work on AppVeyor, and it did work locally for 2 different people. And I tried some things to try and make it as comparable as possible.

So it is worth looking in to, but it depends on your priorities. Knowing how to debug situations like this would definitely be useful.

    Cheers, Cedd
