How to make AppVeyor build only tags?

In my workflow, when I do a release on GitHub I create a tag and that's when I want AppVeyor to build the app. In the settings I have ticked the option "Build tags only" however I see it's still building every commit.

This is quite an annoyance as I only need it to build something once or twice a month, instead it's doing it 10-20 times a day, which means work piles up needlessly (there was 12 days of backlog today) and I can't even get it to build something when I need it.

Any idea how to fix this?

Settings in the UI are (mostly) not respected when you have a configuration file (appveyor.yml) in your repo. Details here.

Add skip_non_tags: true to your config file.
